EAN-8 is specifically designed for small products where a full EAN-13 barcode would simply be too large. From chewing gum packets to cigarettes, small cosmetics to confectionery — EAN-8 ensures global scanner compatibility in a compact format.
All barcodes are generated locally in your browser. Your data never leaves your device, ensuring complete privacy and security. You can generate unlimited barcodes, always free, with no expiry.
An EAN-8 barcode is a compact version of the EAN-13 standard, introduced specifically for small products where space on the label is limited. It consists of 8 digits: 7 digits entered by you, plus an 8th checksum digit calculated automatically. Only numbers 0–9 are allowed.
EAN-8 barcodes are part of the global GS1 system and are fully compatible with retail POS scanners worldwide. When scanned, they reveal the product number which links to pricing, stock and product details in databases — just like EAN-13, but in a smaller footprint.
The first 2–3 digits typically indicate the GS1 country prefix, making EAN-8 useful for international retail. Our generator supports custom colors, adjustable height and text display so you can match your packaging requirements perfectly.
EAN-8 is the go-to barcode for small products. Here are the most common places to use it:
Print EAN-8 barcodes on small candy packets, chewing gum, and mints where EAN-13 would be too large to fit.
EAN-8 is the standard barcode for cigarette packs and small tobacco products globally.
Use EAN-8 on lipsticks, lip balms, small perfume bottles and other compact cosmetic items.
Apply EAN-8 barcodes on small medicine packets, individual blister packs and pharmacy products.
Use EAN-8 anywhere space is limited — key rings, small stationery, mini products or compact packaging.

Use EAN-8 when your product packaging is too small for EAN-13. Use EAN-13 for standard-sized retail products. Use UPC-A for products sold primarily in the United States and Canada.
Always enter exactly 7 digits. The 8th checksum digit is calculated and added automatically by the generator.
EAN-8 must be printed at a minimum width of 26.73mm for reliable scanning. Do not scale below this size.
Always use dark bars on a light background. Low contrast barcodes may fail to scan at checkout counters.
For official retail use, apply for a GTIN-8 number from your country's GS1 organization to ensure uniqueness.
Always scan your barcode with a retail scanner before bulk printing to ensure it reads correctly every time.
Keep your PNG or SVG file safe. You can reuse it anytime without needing to regenerate.
